The SOA Sailing Team is cancelling practice today due to high wind advisory.

We plan to hold practice as regularly scheduled on Friday and again next Tuesday.  For next Tuesday, please RSVP to SOAsailing.com.  There are only 12 slots on Tuesdays.

The next two Tuesdays practice is open to anyone on any of the three SOA Sailing Teams — Developmental, JV, and Varsity.  Practice will be from 4 to 6 p.m. on November 16 and 23.  Practice will be run by Coaches Megan Riddle and Bryan Rigby.

We have 12 slots for sailors on Tuesdays.  Please RSVP (let us know in advance if you’re coming) by emailing Lisa DeLoach at SOAsailing@gmail.com.  The first 12 to RSVP get to attend.  If you show up at the last minute without RSVPing, you might be turned away if we have too many sailors.

We will also have regularly scheduled practice for the JV and Varsity on Fridays from 4 to 6 p.m.

I am pleased to announce that Charleston Community Sailing has a new staff addition. We would like to introduce and welcome our new Dock Master, Lenny Lundquist. Lenny will be overseeing all the maintenance on the fleet, equipment and safety boats. He will be contacting you, the coaches if he notices damage to the fleet or if issues arise. If you should need to reach him, his email is lenny@charlestoncommunitysailing.org.

In the afternoons, Joe Daly has been doing boat assignments and hanging out around the dock to assist you guys if needed.

A few things that we have noticed and want to stress to you and your sailors.
1. Please rinse boats, inside/out with fresh water.
2. Remove 3 plugs inside and 1 at transom.
3. Attach Jib halyard to Cunningham.
4. Remove trash from boats
5. Put sails in correct bags.
6. Line rudders up properly
7. Tie down boats.
8. Remind your team to NOT put foot on bow to get jib halyard tension.

REMINDER:
1. This weekend is the Leukemia Cup, several teams have confirmed participation and I have not heard from others. Remember if your team is participating you MUST provide a parent to help, and let me know, names of sailors. http://www.leukemiacup.org/sc/ If I do not hear from you, I assume you do not want a boat and will allow another team to use.

2. Need waivers from several teams.

If you haven’t already turned in your waiver, you need to turn it in to Lisa DeLoach quickly. You won’t be able to sail without it.

First Practice a Success

Eight SOA students sailed during practice on Tuesday, including a couple new faces.  The breeze was light, but we managed to get in about an hour and 15 minutes of sailing.  Practice ended promptly at 6:03 p.m.

A couple quick reminders:

  1. Please read the tab describing equipment needed to sail.  Close toed shoes are required.  Crocs don’t offer enough protection and therefore don’t qualify.  They are great to slip into after practice.
  2. Students should bring water to practice and bring it out on the water so they can easily stay hydrated.
